Postponed: First Technical Session of 2024

The Georgia Chapter is hosting our first 2024 in-person technical session in June. Our meeting will be hosted at the Atlanta offices of GEI Consultants (3065 Akers Mill Road). The event will include dinner and social hour for those that RSVP, at a cost of only $20 for Chapter members and $40 for non-members (the $40.fee includes one year membership in the Chapter).

Time: 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. (Social hour at 5:30, presentation and dinner from 6:30 to 8:30)

Topic: Managing Potential Public Health Impacts of Organic Waste Management Facilities

Presenter: Dr. Custudio Muianga, Environmental Health Scientist
Toxicology Section in the Office of Innovation and Analytics of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
Dr. Muianga is an Environmental Health Scientist with the Toxicology Section in the Office of Innovation and Analytics of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Subject Matter Expert. For the last 14 years, Dr. Muianga has worked in the federal government and collaborated with academy, private sector, and civil society to protect human health and the environment. He joined the agency as an ORISE Fellow in 2012 to work with the Exposure Investigation Team. He was previously employed as an Environmental Health Scientist at the U.S. EPA’s National Center for Environmental Assessment, Superfund Health Risk Technical Support Center, and as an Industrial Hygienist Graduate Student Worker at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Education and Information Division. He received his PhD in Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health from the University of Cincinnati, his MPH in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Michigan, and his BSc. in Chemistry from Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. He is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, and he has been involved in emerging environmental contaminants research. He has published and contributed to book chapters and has presented in national and international conferences. His research focus is on addressing public health impacts from exposure to hazardous substances and emerging environmental hazards (e.g., plastic pollution, micro- and nanoplastics, aerosols and nanoparticles including from heavy metals, and TB and HIV and polio pathogens). Outside work he enjoys time with family and volunteering in church and local communities.
